Streaming file 1, side 1: Host John Aielli introduces the Eklektico program and David Vaughan; Kelly Hodge from the Performing Arts Center in Austin introduces the Merce Cunningham Dance Company performance at the Bass Concert Hall; Vaughan speaks about the trilogy of works that Merce Cunningham created for commission by the University of Texas at Austin: Cargo X (1989), Change of Address (1992), and Tune In/Spin out (1996); Vaughan speaks about his background with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company, including his appointment as Company archivist; Vaughan gives a brief biography of Cunningham, including his early dance training, mentors, college years, and becoming a dancer with the Martha Graham Dance Company; Vaughan speaks about Cunningham and John Cage's first concert together with Jean Erdman in New York, 1942 as well as the joint concert between Cage and Cunningham in 1944; Vaughan speaks about the collaboration between Cage and Cunningham that emphasizes the independence between music and dance; he tells an anecdote about the premiere of Ground level overlay (1995) and composer Stuart Dempster; Vaughan speaks about the electronic elements of Dempster's Underground overlays (1995) and instruments incorporated into Cage's Four series; Vaughan briefly mentions the other musicians playing in the performance, Takehisa Kosugi, Fast Forward, and John D.S.
