Notes
Statement of responsibility: M. Jeanne Chapoulaud sculp.
Content: The artist's name has not been confirmed.
Biographical/historical: Probably published as part of Simon Guillaume's Positions et attitudes de l'allemande (Paris, 1768). The same positions may be seen in figs. 2 and 6 of Guillaume's Almanach dansant, ou Positions et attitudes de l'allemande (Paris, 1770), but the prints in the later volume, which are unattributed, are in a smaller format and show differences in the dancers' costumes, faces, and settings.
Biographical/historical: The allemande, which was a musical form as well as a dance, originated in the sixteenth century and enjoyed continued popularity well into the eighteenth century. The interlacing arms seen in these prints are a characteristic of the dance.
