Notes
Content: In this festival, the Buddhist-derived deity Matarajin rode to the temple on a black ox. Once outside, he read nonsense verses from a sacred book, being interrupted all the while by devils (oni) who capered about and made noises to try to spoil the ritual. At the end of the ceremony, god and creatures all went together into the temple. This festival is no longer celebrated.
