Description
Interview with Christopher D'Amboise conducted by Walter Terry in May, 1978 in New York City, as research for a possible article about male dancers in the United States. Streaming audio file (approximately 43 minutes). Christopher D'Amboise speaks with Walter Terry about his decision to become a dancer; his family including how his parents felt about his career choice; the kinds of roles he prefers; his teachers including his female teachers compared to his male teachers; roles in the New York City Ballet repertory he would like to dance; partnering; his early performances including in The nutcracker; roles he is learning; the difficulty of balancing his personal life with his career; his classes in dance types other than ballet; his relationship with his father, Jacques D'Amboise including an anecdote about a demonstration he gave at Christopher's school [ends abruptly].
