Abstract

New Zealand-based dancer and scholar Jennifer Shennan discusses her special interest in French baroque dancing. Using the Pacific kingdom of Tonga as an example, she points out traits common to court dance of different cultures. She describes her experiences doing fieldwork in the Polynesian island group of Tokelau, as well as her experiences in New York City under a Fulbright grant.
