Statement of responsibility: "This sketch of the Western Coast of Florida is based on a reconnoissance & observations by F. H. Gerdes Asst. U.S.C.S. on reconnoissances and a sketch by Capt. Casey U.S.A. & on the maps of the Topographical Engineers--The triangulations and reconnoissances on the Florida Keys & vicinity (shown in the succeeding sketches) were made by parties on the Coast Survey. For detailed information concerning the Western Coast of Florida see Gerdes' reconnoissance in annual report of 1851. The reconnoissance of the Eastern Coast of Florida to Miami R. was made by Maj. H. Prince, U.S.A. Assist. U.S.C.S."
