Abstract

A typed note dated January 16, 1984 and addressed to "Tom (?) and Margaret (Carson)" with a handwritten signature (illegible) indicates that this raw recording was intended for a broadcast either on January 24th or February 1, 1984, and was expected to be a "topnotch segment." The friendly conversation depicts the story of a Korean (residing in the US) violinist Kim's acquisition of a Stradivarius violin and its history as well as many other biographical details that encompass Kim's thoughts on music, brands of violins (Stradivarius and Guarneri vs. others and a comparison between these two instruments), his love and knowledge only of Western music, a few details related to the techniques of violin playing, and some other topics. The 2nd part is a repetition of the end of the 1st part.
