Biographical/historical: Plates from the book La mazourka, album à la mode, published in Paris in 1844. In addition to illustrations and text, it contained music and instructions for the dance, as choreographed by the dancing master Laborde.
Biographical/historical: These prints depict what may be called the ballroom mazurka to differentiate it from the Polish folk dance, which is also called the mazurek. Originally a lively dance in triple meter, the mazurka became popular in many countries and across many years, both as a dance and a musical form.

Two numbered prints depicting upper-class ladies and gentlemen in a ballroom. Print number 1 represents two couples in movement; in print number 3, four couples appear to be taking their places for the dance.
