Description
These are the first four in a series of seven, charging the African Institution and other abolitionists with "calumny," "unparalleled effrontery," "insidious and wilful obliquity," and "fanaticism" in their reporting on African slavery; and with "visibly preparing for the rapid march of murder, anarchy, and desolation in our West India possessions." In reality, planters "are humane and merciful," and the slaves "happy." Ineed, they have "little cause to lament their removal from the wild woods of an opposite shore, and could scarcely desire to change their present lot for the high rated freedom of European paupers."
