Description
Dorothy Bird records her thoughts about George Balanchine and Martha Graham and other, related topics, in 1979, in Merrick, New York. Streaming audio file (approximately 32 minutes). [Begins abruptly.] Dorothy Bird reminisces about taking class with Leon Fokine and Ruthanna Boris; tells an anecdote about George Balanchine and a class she was teaching at the School of American Ballet; speaks about his use of imagery at rehearsals and his sensitivity to music; teaching at the School of American Ballet including Balanchine's encouragement and help; some aspects of Balanchine's choreographic genius; Martha Graham's roles as danced by others; Graham's work Frontier [ends abruptly].
