Sound quality ranges from good to fair. The recording is marred by occasional extraneous noise, and there seems to be some distortion in the speakers' voices.
Description
Interview with Paul Szilard conducted by John Gruen on February 3, 1978 in New York, N.Y., as research for his book Erik Bruhn: danseur noble (Viking Press, New York, 1979). Streaming audio file (approximately 46 minutes). John Gruen introduces Paul Szilard; Szilard speaks with Gruen about his career in ballet including during World War II; Sonia Arova, including how they first came to dance together, at the San Carlos opera in Lisbon; Arova as a dancer including a performance anecdote; his retiring as a dancer and becoming an impresario and artistic adviser; an anecdote about dancing Carabosse with Arova in Japan; starting his own company; his three years as Erik Bruhn's manager; his production of Pas de quatre for Bell Telephone Hour with Alicia Alonso, Nora Kaye, Mia Slavenska and Melissa Hayden [ends abruptly].
