Interview with Jacques D'Amboise conducted by John Gruen, as host, on January 20 for broadcast on January 23, 1977 by radio station WNCN-FM, New York on its series The sound of dance. Remarks by an unidentified speaker regarding the musicians' strike discussed in the recorded interview both precede and follow the interview. Streaming audio file (approximately one hour and three minutes). [Brief remarks by an unidentified speaker regarding the probable end of the musicians' strike discussed in the recorded interview.] John Gruen, as host, and Jacques D'Amboise speak about the strike by the musicians' union at the New York City Ballet including Gruen's reading aloud an editorial on the topic from The New York Times; male dancers; his children and dance; teaching his son's classmates at the Collegiate Institute; George Balanchine's Movements for piano and orchestra including Suzanne Farrell's last-minute substitution for Diana Adams [a recording of the music by Igor Stravinsky used in this ballet is played]; [commercial announcements]; Gruen and D'Amboise speak about the relationship of the music and the choreography in Movements for piano and orchestra; D'Amboise tells an anecdote about Stravinsky; the effect of the strike on him and the company [a recording of music by George Gershwin used in the ballet Who cares? is played]; Gruen and D'Amboise speak further about the strike; Gruen's closing remarks [brief remarks by an unidentified speaker regarding the probable end of the musicians' strike; commercial announcement, news, and music].
