Description
Interview with Terry Orr conducted by Kyra Lynn Kaptzan on June 8, 1978 for the radio program Ballet Beat on WNYU-FM and broadcast on July 4, 1978. Streaming audio file (approximately 16 minutes). Terry Orr speaks with Kyra Lynn Kaptzan about his reasons for retiring from dancing [with American Ballet Theatre]; the responsibilities of a ballet master, including rehearsals, casting, and teaching; his early dance training and career at the San Francisco Ballet; coming to New York City and joining American Ballet Theatre; his favorite roles, including one of the sailors in Jerome Robbins' ballet Fancy free; his certainty that he will not return to dancing as a career; possible interest in choreographing; ballet on television; the film The turning point.
