Notes

Content: "Tuxedo", as used here, seems to mean the large folded-back "lapels" of the cape, reminiscent of the similar wide lapels on a man's formal jacket. Note the armholes and the fact that the cape's pockets can only be used when its lapels are folded back. "Bias" refers to material being cut so that its patterns run in different directions on different parts of a garment.
Content: Written on image: "Reversible tuxedo cape[,] plaid cut on the bias beneath smooth shoulder. Tuxedo and lining of monotone wool." "designed by Pearl Alexander" "André 570 - 7th Ave. New York City Jan 6, 1940"
Content: Image includes small sketch of back of garment. Year on image date probably should be "1941".
Date: Illustration origninally bound in Spring, 1940-1941.
