Caption reads: C'est un decoration du troisieme acte de L'opéra de Venus jalouse representé a Venise. Inventé par Jacques Torelli de Fano en Italie et grave par Aveline à Paris.
Stage design for the first act of the opera La Venere gelosa, or Jealous Venus, performed in 1643 at the Teatro novissimo in Venice. A female figure sits center-stage (raising a goblet) surrounded by 8 fauns who play various musical instruments. Behind the performers the scenery depicts a tree lined clearing flanked by houses on each side.
