Biographical/historical: Auguste Garneray was a Parisian painter, printmaker, illustrator, and stage designer who designed costumes for the Académie Royale de Musique, the Paris Opéra, and the Théâtre Français. He was particularly noted for his skill at adapting contemporary costume to evoke other countries and periods.
