Abstract
Documentary tracing the heritage of the Australian Ballet to the ballet companies organized by Colonel Vasily de Basil in Monte Carlo after the death of Serge Diaghilev. In addition to excerpts of the Australian Ballet's productions of The sleeping beauty and Continuum, the documentary is profusely illustrated by archival dance footage of the Original Ballet Russe, filmed during the company's Australian tours by Dr. J. Ringland Anderson, as well as still photographs by Hugh P. Hall and sketches by Daryl Lindsay. The pioneering Australian ballet schools and companies of Edouard Borovansky and Hélène Kirsova are also discussed.
