Abstract
Documentary on the life and achievements of Bob Fosse, encompassing his work as dancer, actor, choreographer, and stage and film director. In addition to reminiscences by his former wife Gwen Verdon, the documentary includes tributes made at his memorial service in October 1987 by Roy Scheider, Neil Simon, E.L. Doctorow, and others. Fosse speaks for himself in interview footage and in excerpts from his acceptance speeches at the Capezio and Tony Awards (both received in 1987). The numerous examples of his television, stage, and film performances and choreography include: "I wanna be a dancing man," performed with Verdon; television dances with Mary Ann Niles; duet with Debbie Reynolds from Give a girl a break; duet with Carol Haney from Kiss me, Kate; "The alleycats," danced with Tommy Rall in My sister Eileen; "Steam heat," danced by Haney, Buzz Miller, and Kenneth LeRoy in Pajama game; excerpts from Damn Yankees, danced with Verdon; excerpts from Sweet Charity, danced by Verdon, Chita Rivera, Shirley MacLaine, Paula Kelly, and others; "Money," danced by Liza Minnelli and Joel Grey in Cabaret; the television commercial for Pippin; "Snake in the grass," danced by Fosse in The little prince; duet from All that jazz, danced by Ann Reinking and Erzsebet Foldi; and an excerpt from Big deal, his last musical, performed on the 1986 Tony Awards show.
