Biographical/historical: A library school was opened at The New York Public Library in October of 1911. Edwin Anderson, Assistant Director of The Library from 1908 to 1913, persuaded Andrew Carnegie to finance the establishment of the school, which was designed primarily to provide trained assistants for the staff of The Library. Mary W. Plummer, founder and director of the Pratt Insitute Library School, was appointed Principal. The school closed in 1926 due to a lack of financial support.
