Sound quality is fair. The recording is marred by extraneous noise including "tape hiss" and occasional short gaps. However, for the most part, the speakers' voices are easily intelligible.
Description
Interview with Paul Sanasardo conducted by John Gruen on March 26,1975 at Sanasardo's studio, in New York City, as research for an article in Dance magazine. The article, entitled Close-up: Paul Sanasardo, appeared in the June 1975 issue. Streaming file 1 (approximately 48 minutes). Paul Sanasardo speaks with John Gruen about the repertoire for his upcoming season in June, in Brooklyn; recent works including Saints and lovers, Sketches for nostalgic children, and Pearl river; his background and training including with Erika Thimey; temperament as what attracts him to a choreographer or dancer; his first choreography; studying with Antony Tudor and with Mia Slavenska; opening a school with Donya Feuer; his company [Paul Sanasardo Dance Company]; the philosophy and motivation underlying his work; the relationship of energy and movement; his working method; the kind of dancers he would like for his company [ends abruptly but continues on streaming file 2].
