Content: Written on border: "V. 6, 1895" Printed on border: "The above shows a camel carrying an "atatich" of bright colours, of wich red is most prominent. Around the animal bound a score of Arabs, dressed in long white robes, and armed with guns. Nothing could be more unexpected, more picturesque, or more startling : life in its intensity seems to spring up from the dead as this caravan is met with in the desert. This palanquin contains a young woman, chosen wife of the chief of the neighbourhood. They are conducting her with great ceremony to the "Koubba" of Sid Ali-ed-Djettoui, in order to ask of that sacred personage, by offerings and prayers, to cure her of the fever from which she is suffering."
