Content: "Histoire des guespes en général ... " and "Des freslons, des guespes cartonniéres" (v. 6, mémoires 6-7. p. 155-246)contain numerous references to wasps' nest paper, e.g. p. 223: an American wasp (in Cayenne) produces "un carton quine le cede en rien au plus beau, au plus blanc, au plus fort que nous sçachons faire"; p. 232: "Celles-ci [i.e. the American wasps] nous donnent une importante leçon en nous apprenant qu'on peut faire du papier de la qualité dunôtre, avec des fibres de plantes, qui n'ont pas passé parl'état de linge & de chiffon". The latter passage continues by suggesting that the wood used by the wasps bediscovered and imported for use in papermaking (p. 232-234). Plates 14-25 depict paper wasps and their nests.
