Notes
Content: Adolf Philipp, playwright, actor, producer and composer, was born in Hamburg, Germany and ran away at the age of fourteen to go on the stage. He came to New York as a tenor and soon founded his own theater producing shows in both German and English. A comedian, Philipp usually appeared in his own productions. His biggest success was the operetta, ALMA, WHERE DO YOU LIVE? (1909). As an author he used various pen names including Paul Herve and Jean Briquet.
Content: Collection consists of clippings, telegrams and letters all commemorating Philipp's 25th anniversary actor's jubilee, February 19, 1906 in Berlin. At this time he was operating the Deutsch-Amerikanisches Theater which he had founded in Berlin with his brother Paul in 1904.
