Ceremony for the presentation of the 1956 Dance Magazine awards, recorded on February 19, 1957, and broadcast by radio station WNYC-FM on its series Today in ballet. Speakers include Agnes de Mille (award recipient), Paul G. Hoffman, Katharine Cornell, and Martha Graham (award recipient). The unidentified female speaker who introduces Paul G. Hoffman, Katharine Cornell, and Martha Graham may be Jean Gordon. Streaming audio file (approximately 26 minutes). [Applause]. Agnes de Mille's acceptance speech including her gratitude for having been able to bring dance to a wider audience through television [her two specials, in 1956, for the Omnibus TV series]; (introduction of Paul G. Hoffman); Paul G. Hoffman's speech including Martha Graham's role as a cultural ambassador (introduction of Katharine Cornell); Katharine Cornell's brief remarks and presentation of the award to Martha Graham; Martha Graham's acceptance speech including her recent tours to Asia; the nature of communication and dance as communication (closing remarks).
