Description
Interview with Kirsten Simone conducted by John Gruen on July 17, 1977 in Copenhagen, Denmark, as research for his book Erik Bruhn: danseur noble (Viking Press, New York, 1979). Streaming audio file (approximately 39 minutes). Kirsten Simone speaks with John Gruen about Erik Bruhn including his nickname the King of Dance; her first time dancing with him, in August Bournonville's ballet A folk tale; Bruhn as a partner; dancing with Bruhn in Roland Petit's ballet Carmen and in Birgit Cullberg's ballet Miss Julie; other ballets she has danced with Bruhn; her friendship with him; his personality; Bruhn in the play Rashomon; Bruhn in José Limón's The moor's pavane; reasons Bruhn did not accept the directorship of the Royal Danish Ballet [Kongelige Danske ballet]; the company's repertory.
