Description
During the third panel discussion in Session 5, moderators Jeannie G. Pool and Denise Laroutis lead a capitivating panel discussion about women composers from around the world: Holland, Germany, Sweden, France, Denmark, Romania, Australia and South Africa. Some recurring themes of the discussion were the lack of awareness of women composers' work by the public, the limited ability of performing works by women, and how to get funding and sponsors. (One audience member talked about getting a sponsorship from the diamond industry in Part 2.) Some of the participants read a list and talked about the influential women composers in their own country. A. Holland (Henriëtte Bosmans, Marjo Tal, Harma Bakker (?), Bertha Frensel Wegener, and Sylvia Velman (?)) ; B. Sweden (Alice Tegnér and Kerstin Jeppsson) ; C. France (Eugénie Kuffler (born in America, lives in France), Joëlle Leandre, Tona Scherchen[-Hsiao], Jeannine Richer, Claire Schapira and Jacqueline Nosan (?)) ; D. South Africa (Eva Harvey) ; E. Australia [from the last two pages of a paper written by Teresa Raddick (?) (Melbourne)] (Una Bourne, Mona McBurney, May Brahe, Virginia Gabriel, Maggie Oakley, Esther Rofe, Peggy Glanville-Hicks, Mirrie Irma Hill, Dulcie Holland, Linda Phillips, Miriam Hyde, Margaret Sutherland, Marjorie Hesse, Moneta Eagles, Helen Gifford, Anne Boyd, Ann Carr-Boyd, Jennifer Fowler, Alison Bauld, Moya Henderson and Elaine Doe)
