Content: Portrait etching of Bill Richmond in fighting stance.
Biographical/historical: Bill Richmond, British boxer. Born into slavery in New York, he was freed in 1777 and moved to England where he was educated and trained as a cabinet maker. He later began boxing career which was successful enought to allow him to buy the Horse and Dolphin pub near Leicester Square in London. After retiring from boxing he taught the sport, training both professionals like Tom Molineaux and amateurs like Lord Byron.
