Description
Interview with Rudolf Nureyev conducted by John Gruen, as host, for broadcast on July 19, 1976 by radio station WNCN, New York on its series The sound of dance. The interview with Nureyev comprises less than half of the total recording and was recorded prior to the other sections. Streaming audio file (approximately 58 minutes). John Gruen, host, speaks briefly about his guest Rudolf Nureyev and his upcoming performances in New York City [an excerpt, approximately 25 minutes long, of the music by Peter Illich Tchaikovsky for the ballet The sleeping beauty is played]; Gruen and Rudolf Nureyev speak about his upcoming performances with the National Ballet of Canada; Hans van Manen's ballet Four Schumann pieces; Nureyev's planned ballet Romeo and Juliet; his new production of The sleeping beauty; his role as [Rudolf] Valentino in the (1977) film Valentino [a recording of an excerpt from Robert Schumann's String quartet, op. 41, no. 3, in A major used in Hans van Manen's ballet Four Schumann pieces is played]; closing remarks and announcements.
