Description
American conductor Michael Tilson Thomas's lecture on the creation of the tone poem "A hero's life" by R. Strauss is accompanied by details from the composer's life that inspired the extreme emotion that he poured into this work. Thomas parses it into parts to describe different moods of the hero/composer. The lecture is intercut with passages of music and concludes with a complete performance of the poem.
