Streaming audio file (approximately 33 minutes). [Music and announcements.] P.W. Manchester and Carolyn Watts discuss the ballet The sleeping beauty and its choreographer Marius Petipa [a recording of an excerpt (the overture) of the music by Peter Illich Tchaikovsky for The sleeping beauty is played]; the structure of the ballet, beginning with the Prologue and the entrance of the Violet Fairy; Carlotta Brianza, the first Aurora and Pavel Gerdt, the first Prince Florimond; The sleeping beauty as having inspired Anna Pavlova to become a ballerina [a recording of an excerpt of the music (the panorama scene) by Tchaikovsky for The sleeping beauty is played; following a few brief comments, a recording of an excerpt of the music for the Bluebird and Princess Florine variations in the grand divertissement of the final act is played];Manchester speaks further about the Bluebird and Princess Florine variations; Serge Diaghilev's production of The sleeping beauty in London with Brianza as Carabosse; the Sadler's Wells Ballet production [music and announcements].
