Interview with Daniel Nagrin conducted by John Gruen, as host, for broadcast on May 24, 1976 by radio station WNCN-FM, New York on its series The sound of dance. Streaming audio file (approximately one hour). [Music and introductory remarks by Oscar Buhler.] John Gruen, host, introduces his guest, Daniel Nagrin, and speaks about recent performances of John Neumeier's Romeo and Juliet and George Balanchine's Union Jack; Nagrin speaks with Gruen about his new work Ruminations; creating solo dances; seeing himself on film in his own dances; Gruen speaks about Nagrin's jazz dancing and his physical appearance; [a recording of music by Sidney Bechet used in Nagrin's work Ruminations, is played]; Nagrin speaks about his background including how he decided to become a dancer; working with Helen Tamiris and dancing in musicals; his decision to focus on his own solo dances, including Paul Draper's advice [a recording of music by Ludwig van Beethoven used in Ruminations, is played]; Gruen speaks further about Nagrin; Nagrin speaks further about solo dancing [Gruen's closing remarks including the times and place where Ruminations will be performed].
