American pianist and conductor Michael Tilson Thomas discusses the background and history of Beethoven's 5th symphony at the Barbican Hall in London with the London Symphony Orchestra. His lecture "Discovering Beethoven" is intercut with readings and passages of music and concludes with a complete performance of the symphony.
