Barbara Dilley speaks with Jean Nuchtern about her early dance training; college and her decision to make dancing her career; studying with Merce Cunningham; her teachers during her first few years in New York including Daniel Nagrin and Helen Tamiris; joining the Merce Cunningham Dance Company; touring with the company, in particular the relationship of the dancers to each other; the making of Cunningham's How to pass, kick, fall and run; his work RainForest; her struggle to learn certain Cunningham works; her occasional performances with Judson Dance Theater; Yvonne Rainer as an important influence on her artistic development; Rainer's work Continuous project - altered daily including its significance for Dilley [ends abruptly but continues directly on streaming audio file 2].
