The sound quality is good. The recording is marred by "tape hiss," but the speaker's voice is clear and loud.
Description
Lecture-demonstration by Yvonne Rainer, recorded in the mid or late 1960's. Streaming audio file (approximately 35 minutes). Yvonne Rainer speaks about the contents of the tape she is making of her presentation [that is, this recording] including the omission of a film and other material; she speaks about her preferences, theories, and beliefs regarding music for dance; excerpts of recorded music in different genres are played including I'm gonna wait to the midnight hour; Rainer speaks about the dynamics and phrasing of movement including the expense and conservation of energy; her choreography, and her dance The mind is a muscle [which she refers to as The mind is a muscle, trio A or as Trio A]. From approximately 23:54 to 26:09 minutes, a recording of buzzing noises followed by an interval of silence followed in turn by buzzing noises, is played; Rainer speaks further on her theories of movement and her work The mind is a muscle. The final section of the record consists of a recording of the sound of galloping horses.
