Description
Interview with Bhaskar [Bhaskar Roy Chowdhury] conducted by Walter Terry as host for radio station WNYC, New York, on its series Invitation to dance. The interview was recorded on March 9 and broadcast on March 12, 1967. Streaming audio file (approximately 31 minutes). [Music and introduction of Walter Terry and program by unidentified speaker.] Walter Terry introduces his guest Bhaskar; Bhaskar speaks with Terry about his career in the United States including how he first came to the United States, his touring, and his choreographing; his style of Indian dance contrasted with that of Uday Shankar; his classical dance training in India including how he first became a dancer; the four major schools of Indian classical dance; Shiva, god of the dance; the historical origins of his Cobra dance; teaching western dance in India; the dance Bhaskar finds most emotionally moving; Terry's closing remarks. [Interview ends at approximately 23:35 minutes; the balance of the recording consists of the unidentified speaker's closing remarks and music.]
