Reel 1 (approx. 22 min.): Western square dance. Caller: Ralph Fulkerson. Perf. by the Johnson City Grand Squares: Jakie and Glenna Bailey, Roy and Helen Campbell, D. B. and Virginia Honeycutt, Don and Shirley Lyell, and Dewey and Billie Tipton. Five dances, four to singing calls: "When you're smiling," "That old black magic," "America," and "Pretty woman." The second dance is performed to a hash (patter) call. -- Reel 2 (approx. 17 min.): African-American step shows. Perf. by members of Zeta Phi Beta sorority, East Tennessee State University: Cheryl Brown (speaker), Kathy Branche, Venis Johnson, and Tara Dunn. No audio during introduction. Description and demonstration of various routines. -- Reel 3 (approx. 22 min.): Scottish country dancing. Facilitator: Bernard Kaiman. Perf. by the East Tennessee Scottish Country Dancers: Bernard and Audrey Kaiman, Gerald and Carolyn Kerr, John and Marilyn Kerr, Laurence and Catherine Long, and Reuben and Jean Moore. Introduction by Bernard Kaiman and Jane Harris Woodside, assistant director of CASS. Loss of audio during introduction to first dance; the dances that follow are a strathspey, the reel of the Royal Scots, and a carrousel including audience members. -- Reel 4 (approx. 21 min.): Scottish highland and national dance. Facilitator and bagpipes: David Coulter. Introduction by David Coulter and Woodside, followed by dances perf. alternately by Mary Sparks and Sherry Coulter: Highland fling, Scottish lilt, sword dance, All the blue bonnets are over the border, Flora McDonald's fancy, The village maid, hornpipe, and a Scottish version of the Irish jig. -- Reel 5 (approx. 26 min.): Old-time square dancing. Caller: Veronia Miller. Musicians: The Dixie Dewdrops. Three old-time square dances perf. by audience members, and a brief interview of Miller by Woodside. -- Reel 6 (approx. 5 min.): Informal dancing by audience members. The first dance is the two-step; the second and third flatfooting.

Dance sessions from a one-day festival for adults and children, sponsored by the Center for Appalachian Studies and Services (CASS) of East Tennessee State University. Videotaped in the ballroom of the D. P. Culp University Center, East Tennessee State University, Johnson City, Tennessee, on March 14, 1992, by Brad Bowen of the Broadcasting Division of the Communications Department, East Tennessee State University.
