Interview with Sean Lavery conducted by Kyra Lynn Kaptzan on August 31, 1979, and broadcast on September 7, 1979; and interview with Paul Mejia conducted by Kyra Lynn Kaptzan on November 28 and broadcast on May 4, 1980, in each case, for the radio program Ballet Beat on WNYU-FM. Streaming audio file 1; recorded August 31, 1979, aired September 7, 1979 (approximately 26 minutes). Sean Lavery speaks with Kyra Lynn Kaptzan about his early dance training; coming to New York City to study at the New York School of Ballet; performing with the San Francisco Ballet; performing and touring with the Frankfurt Ballet [Frankfurter Ballett]; favorite roles with that company; the Columbia Artists' North American tour; joining New York City Ballet; taking George Balanchine's ballet class for the first time; his early roles as a principal dancer with the New York City Ballet; learning roles at the last minute; partnering; working with Balanchine on Kammermusik no. 2.
