DescriptionInterview with Clive and Patricia Barnes conducted by John Gruen on January 10 and 11, 1978, in New York (N.Y.), as part of the research for John Gruen's book, Erik Bruhn: danseur noble (Viking Press, New York, 1979). The interview is conducted primarily with Clive Barnes. Patricia Barnes does not participate in streaming audio file 1, and contributes relatively few remarks overall.

Clive Barnes speaks with John Gruen about his own background as a dance critic including his involvement with the Ballet Club at Oxford University and the dance journal Arabesque; becoming the first dance critic ever of The Times; moving to the United States where he now writes for the [New York] Post; seeing Erik Bruhn dance for the first time, with the Metropolitan Ballet in a London suburb; his impressions of Bruhn as a dancer and as a person at that time; seeing him dance in the United States; Rudolf Nureyev and his relationship with Bruhn [ends abruptly but continues on streaming audio file 2].
