Interview with Ivan Nagy conducted by Walter Terry in New York City, on June 1, 1978, primarily regarding his upcoming retirement. Streaming audio file 1 (approximately 39 minutes). [Begins abruptly.] Ivan Nagy speaks with Walter Terry about his decision to retire from dancing; his relationship with American Ballet Theatre including his discussions with Lucia Chase regarding his last season; how he feels about his career in retrospect; post-retirement plans including his determination not to return to dancing, even character roles; his thoughts about coaching and teaching; possible programs and partners for his farewell performance. Streaming audio file 2 (approximately 41 minutes). Ivan Nagy speaks with Walter Terry about his intent to continue taking class after retirement; his children and how he feels about their dancing; some rising (and established) male ballet dancers; ego and dancing, particularly in a pas de deux; his dissatisfaction with Antony Tudor; roles he would have liked to have danced; his thoughts on dancing in Hungary; more on why he does not want to dance (professionally) once he retires.
