Sound quality is fair. The recording is marred by extraneous noise. However, the interviewee's voice is clear and easily intelligible.
Description
Interview with Vera Strelska, June 30, 1981. The female interviewer, whom Strelska calls "Lila" (phonetic spelling) and location are not identified. An unidentified man and second woman also occasionally contribute to the conversation. Streaming audio file 1 (approximately 48 minutes). Vera Strelska speaks about her life and career including her (late) friend and associate Alexandre Gavrilov; the life of a dancer in the United States during the 1930s; first coming to the United States with her company in 1923; an anecdote about George Gershwin's offer of work; Bronislava Nijinska as an artist and as a teacher; male technique at the Royal Ballet; her thoughts on Rudolf Nureyev; her willingness to take any dance-related work as long as she was paid; very briefly, Leyda [Anchutina] Eglevsky; her creativity and resourcefulness throughout her career [ends abruptly but continues on streaming audio file 2].
