Content: Interview with Charles Ward conducted by John Gruen on February 4,1975 at Ward's home, in New York City, as research for an article entitled Close-up: Charles Ward, which appeared in the April 1975 issue of Dance magazine.

Content: Sound quality is fair. The recording is marred by frequent extraneous noise and "tape hiss" as well as occasional short gaps. At times, the speakers' voices are difficult to understand.

Charles Ward speaks with John Gruen about his background and training including his relatively late start in ballet; his impressions of the Stuttgart Ballet; his time at the Houston Ballet including a hiatus in New York studying with Leon Danelian; moving to New York and joining American Ballet Theatre; performing with the company including a performance anecdote; his role in Glen Tetley's work Gemini [ends abruptly but continues on streaming file 2].Streaming file 2 (approximately 22 minutes). Charles Ward continues to speak with John Gruen about his role in Gemini; how he feels about dance and his own dancing; his roles including in [George Balanchine's] Theme and variations; the guest star system.
