Content: Printed on verso is p. 483 of the The illustrated London news; page contains a small article describing the architectural features of the newly rebuilt theatre.
Acquisition: Gift; John Taras; 2004.
Biographical/historical: The Covent Garden Theatre was destroyed by fire in 1856. The new building (also called the Royal Opera House) was designed by Edward Middleton Barry and opened on May 15, 1858 with a performance of Meyerbeer's Les Huguenots.
