Description
In what is referred to on the cassette label as a "raw interview," Thomas covers a wide range of topics from his studies in Los Angeles to the reason he chose to work in Buffalo (from 1971 to 1979) and to his current engagements in guest-conducting major orchestras in Europe. He speaks about his vast scope of interests that include experimenting with performing Beethoven's works with an orchestra of the original chamber size and problems that arise in the attempts to revive and recreate authenticity of the old classics. The discussion shifts to contemporary music, the difficulty of performing it, and to the music of two American composers, Carl Ruggles and Charles Ives, whose works Thomas champions.
