Whosoever has seen this work on the stage at the Thalia Theatre certainly has thought to himself: a play about Jewish life, Jewish behavior and Jewish characters! Sharkansky's work "Rokhel or The Flag of the Camp of Judah" does not begin with a rabbi and his wife who could not have children, or a king and queen that have three princes, three fools like Shmendrik, and one, a wiseman like Solomon. From the beginning Sharkansky leads us right into the middle of life and shows us, in living color, the situation of today's society in Russia in which the Jewish paupers suffer so much, and how they search for a way to get to America or to the Land of Israel. The Jew is no longer being beaten and trounced by the half-wild, ignorant and drunken "Great Russians" as they were earlier. Even intellectuals murder the Jew in cold blood because the holy love that knows no difference between Jew and Christian has tied the hearts of his daughter with a Jewish man in whom the young and honest Christian has found the ideal of tolerance and honesty.]

But I could not realize my dream since there was no actress at the time that had the three talents necessary for the role: beauty, talent and youth.
